Puerto Maldonado is the capital of Madre de Dios. Located in the southeast of Peru, Puerto Maldonado is one of the most isolated regions of the Amazon rainforest. There is the Tambopata Candamo Reserve Zone, a small jungle lodge built of palms fronds, wild cane and clay and raised off the forest floor on wooden stilts.
This almost virgin jungle of Puerto Maldonado is the habitat of jaguars, monkeys, ocelots, tapirs, peccaries, pumas, and a large variety of birds, including Macaws.
