Peru is located in the central part of western South America. The country can be divided into three natural regions: coast (Pacific), highlands (the Andes), and jungle (The Amazon).
Peru boasts of great cultures that have left indelible marks in its history: Chavin, Tiahuanaco, Mochica and the most famous of all - The Inca. Because of these wonderful cultures, Peru has much invaluable treasure in the form of archaeological monuments, ceramics, gold and silver work and textiles.
From the Spanish conquest, Peru also has a wealth of cultural relics. Palaces, temples, convents and other historical monuments of the Colonial period, give testament to a time when Peru was viceroyalty of Spain. During the Inca rule, the Imperial capital was Cuzco, but in the Colonial and Viceregal period, it was Lima, and continues to be so today.
